HIV Youth ProjectJob Details
The HIV Youth Project is a student run not-for-profit organization hoping to create an online community that would combat HIV/AIDS stigma and discrimination for youth—especially women, communities of color and the differently-abled. We are hoping to invest a new design as yet another step in our expansion to further publicize the site as well as attract potential donors. Our ultimate goal is to officially incorporate into a 501©3 nonprofit organization.
Our budget is limited, but we are willing to negotiate on the terms and costs. PayPal is our preferred mode of payment. We are not working on any sort of strict time table at this point—but we are looking to connect with potential designers.
What we are looking for in the new design for the site:
- (Seamless) integration between the main website and a forum/messaging board.
- Ideally, allowing users to create their own profiles, blogs and any other types of personalization.
- Increased accessibility for the differently-abled.
Your (ideal) qualifications:
- A portfolio or links to any previous work.
- Experience working with Wordpress and/or bbpress (or any other forum software).
- Experience with dealing with or creating youth-oriented websites.
- A working understanding of creating and utilizing available resources to create an visually appealing (a la Web 2.0), user intuitive and social community for youth and allies from around the United States to come together in solidarity, support and action.
- An interest in youth/social activism is a big plus.
Certainly, these are not do-or-die requirements, but we hope it gives you a general sense of the type of work we want.
What you will get out of it:
- Credit on the website.
- A oh-so-good feeling that you are helping combating HIV/AIDS stigma.
Site Mission Statement: The Project aims to create, connect and foster a sense of community for HIV-positive youth, by youth. Although our attention is focused on queer-identified communities of color, we welcome all marginalized groups, including but not limited to women and the differently abled. Our primary goals are to provide a welcoming, safe and supportive social space to help newly-diagnosed youth come to terms with their status by capitalizing on the Internet’s unique dynamic of semi-anonymous free expression.
