Badass Web Designer / Graphic Artist wanted
Alternative Media, LLC is a Digital Creative Studio that does graphic design for print and interactive work for companies in Australia, Canada, Scotland, the UK, the Middle East and the U.S.  We work with some really cool people, and do a wide variety of work - everything from kiosk interface design to standard website development to basic business branding and identity work.  We're flexible, down to earth, love music, love what we do and we need someone cool and talented to join our team.  We all work remotely and collaborate online when needed.

We are currently looking to add a mid to senior level website designer / developer to our team to create and maintain new and existing websites and work on various design projects from time to time (including print).  We're looking for the rare breed of graphic designer AND developer.  Someone who loves artwork and communication design as much as they like to write code.  We'd like to say that every project we take on is portfolio worthy, but the reality of any business is finding the balance between projects that pay the bills and projects that win awards.  And we have both.

Web development

  • You have pixel perfect precision (and we do mean pixel perfect) turning a design comp into XHTML / CSS (no tables, except for tabular data of course)
  • Your code is organized and well structured (and you know that comments are just as important as code)
  • Standards compliant & cross browser compatible D/X/HTML / CSS
  • Javascript: prototype, scriptaculous, jQuery
  • You have very good analytical and technical skills and respect deadlines.
  • You have a solid understanding and respect for usability and interface design
  • You speak PHP/MySQL and have experience with CMS Frameworks (Joomla, Drupal, MODx, Wordpress)
  • Know understand the mechanics of SEO

Graphic Design
  1. The more of the Creative Suite you work with the better, but at a minimum it's a VERY SOLID understanding of Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.  Flash, Premiere, Soundbooth and AfterEffects are Bonus
  2. You clearly understand the differences and requirements for designing for print vs web
  3. You work fast and can design to meet a project brief
  4. Your design is focused on communication and you understand designing for business objectives
  5. You understand designing for a brand and can work within brand guidelines and specifications

This position is for telecommuting, working remotely… whatever they're calling it these days. You must have your own equipment and software (We're running CS5). Deadlines need to be met and the quality of work needs to be high. You must be a good communicator, respond within a short time frame when needed and be available when you say you will be - via email, phone or Skype. This is a part-time contract position with the expectation of turning into either full time contract or full time employment. Show us what you got!

Please respond with:
  • Some background information on yourself (we don't need a novel, but make it interesting, your background, likes and dislikes, hobbies, etc)
  • Link to your portfolio or work samples (include relevant details such as role on project and when it was completed)
  • Expectation of wages / hourly rate
  • Availability - when you could start and what time(s) of day/week you are available to work on projects.
  • All of your contact details (email, phone, Skype)
