3D Photoshop Unfolding 3D Mesh Tutorial Needed

Budget: Less than $100

I need someone whom possesses the knowledge to take a 2D Image wrap it around a sphere or inside a sphere or any 3d surface and flatten it for print.  I need to learn the method to do this for a company I work for and I'm willing to pay someone to teach me to do this.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gore_(segment)  Is an example of the gores that make up a sphere.  In this example they are illustrating the finished flattened view.

Currently I'm able to create a Dome within Wings 3D Create cut shapes or gores then unfold it for texture mapping.  I can then take that file into Photoshop and "project" images onto the surface... However, I don't see how I can take the image and "squish" it into the gores from the 3d texture map.  I need to do this within Photoshop so I can gain multiple resolutions.  The images I will be working with may exceed 32000 px.

In conclusion:  I need to take a 2D image wrap it around a 3d shape and then flatten it into shapes that can then be stitched together in the real world.  I know there are multiple methods to do this but I am looking for a solution within Adobe products and most importantly I need to maintain high resolutions.

Flaming Pear does make a filter to do this but it is limited in that it only allows spherical objects and the resolution is limited.

If you have any examples I can see to demonstrate your knowledge would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
