Hello,
I’m a partner in a newly formed boutique design company made up of a talented 3-man team: a visual designer, a front-end programmer, and a back-end programmer. We provide high-quality branding, print design, web design, and web programming services.
We’re looking for a salesperson to work on a commission basis. You would receive 10% of every project that you brought in. Our clients are typically small- to medium-sized business and organizations with projects in the $3k-$8k range. We want to try and raise those numbers by going after larger projects.
You should have a good overall grasp of everything web. You should know how to recognize well-designed websites, should understand what a CMS is, and should be full of creative ideas for sales/marketing campaigns. You should be familiar with current social networking sites (Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn, Twitter, Flickr, etc.) and understand online job-boards, forums, web-apps, API’s, etc. When talking to a potential client, you should be able to quickly identify the problems with their current website – both in terms of design and functionality – and suggest new possibilities that they haven’t considered.
We’re interested in targeting high-end companies. For example, one of our first marketing campaigns has focused on getting wineries to hire us to do their print and web design. If you have an idea for a target market that would be a good fit for our services, excellent! If not, don’t worry – we’ve got plenty of ideas for potential target markets.
We’re looking for someone honest and straight-forward. We get a fair percentage of our business from word of mouth so protecting our reputation is of incredibly important to us. We don’t need someone who promises things that can’t be delivered just so that they can make a sale. We want someone we can trust to bring in projects that match our abilities and fit within our production schedule. It turn, we want you to be able to trust us to deliver a quality product that’s both on-time and on-budget.
We need someone who can represent us in a professional manner. We enjoy having a good time as much as the next guy, but we try to keep our professional and personal lives separate. If I can find embarrassing photos of you by Googling your name, (and believe me… I’m going to try!) then so can a potential client.
Your English (both written and spoken) must be excellent and must be well-organized.
You could work full- or part-time from anywhere.
You can cold call, send out targeted email campaigns, or take any other tactic that you believe would be successful, (although we would like to discuss your approach towards sales before you begin.) We’ll help you get a good idea of our talents and capabilities so that you can accurately sell our services to potential clients.
Similar sales experience would be useful but is not required.
We use Word Press (for smaller sites) and Drupal (for larger sites) so any knowledge of / experience with either of those systems would be helpful.
Please note: we don’t have a large marketing budget, (at least not yet,) so if your strategy for attracting new clients involves placing full-page ads in major newspapers… well… it’s just not going to happen.
